Fall Break – Pumpkin Seed Project!
October 18 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
The Green Thumb Club, our local affiliate of National Garden Clubs, is participating in the NGC’s initiative “Plant America” by providing this event and donating a copy of the book The Saved Seed to the library. The Saved Seed, published by NGC, follows the journey of a smiling pumpkin seed from Halloween pumpkin through the year, becoming a seedling, a vine and then a new pumpkin! Along the way, children learn through beautiful illustrations how to care for their own pumpkin seeds and become successful pumpkin gardeners! After reading this book and discussing basic gardening information, members of the Green Thumb Club will lead participants in removing seeds from real pumpkins, always a fun mess! The kids will each get a pumpkin seed, along with some other seeds, to take home and plant themselves. This program is open to all elementary-aged children.
