Books Sandwiched-In: The Boys in the Boat
March 30 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pmFree
“The Friends of the Bartlesville Public Library will present the first of its Books Sandwiched-In events on Thursday during the noon hour. Richard Mitchell, a local attorney, will discuss the book The Boys in the Boat.
Written by Daniel James Brown, the acclaimed tale is a true account of how nine scrappy, working-class boys from the American West showed true grit at the 1936 Olympics. The young men, rowing for the University of Washington, first had to prove their mettle by defeating the elite crews of the East Coast in order to qualify for the Olympics. The underdogs then proceeded to shock the world by challenging the much-touted, elite German crew rowing for Adolf Hitler in Berlin.
The BSI presentation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room. Light refreshments will be provided, and one lucky member of the audience will win a copy of The Boys in the Boat.”
